As part of Zumax’s wider interest in Balkan infrastructure developments- it is currently carrying out a study of Corridor VIII Vlorë-Durrës-Tirana-Skopje-Sofia-Burgas-Varna, the road and rail link which will produce the land bridge link across the Balkans between the Adriatic and the Black Sea via Albania, Macedonia and Bulgaria.
This study uses as its basis the:
pre-feasibility studies of the missing links along Corridor VIII rail alignment;
pre-feasibility studies of the necessary investments in the road sector, in order to achieve full interoperability and efficiency of road transport and integration with the principle ports
These pre-feasibility studies were carried out by groups composed of representatives of the Ministries of Transport and public transport agencies from Corridor VIII countries. The preliminary findings show:
the railway alignment, characterised by some missing links, is now under completion in many sections, by initiative of single Member States; and
that the quality of road infrastructure is generally good. A limited number of interventions would eliminate the few remaining bottlenecks.
